Alfred Fabie, 88, of Wilkes-Barre, died unexpectedly on Monday,
July 19, 2010 in the Veterans Medical Center, Plains Township.
He was born on February 19, 1922 in Lyndhurst, New Jersey and was
the son of the late Albert Pawlik and Lulu Diller. He was a graduate of
Union City, Keansburg and Red Bank, New Jersey schools. He was a
graduate of Red Bank High School, Class of 1939 and a graduate of the
White School of Photography, New York City, class of 1940. Mr. Fabie
served a tour of duty with the United States Air Force in Avon Park,
Florida; Oahu, Hawaii; Naha, Okinawa and a second tour with the United
States Signal Corps ending with “Task Force Fridig”, Ladd Field,
Fairbanks, Alaska as a head photographer. He was a regular army line
Corporal after six years of service.
He was employed by Met Life Insurance Company, New York City;
Anderson Photo and the United States Army Quartermaster Depot, Kansas
City, Missouri. He was also employed by Sederer-Kolbush, Englewood,
New Jersey and Hydrotherm, Northvale, New Jersey, retiring in 1965. He
served for ten years in Dumont, New Jersey for the Civil Defense Police
Reserve. He was a life member if the Disabled American Veterans Chapter
5, Nanticoke; Parsons Memorial Post 6227 and Veterans of Foreign Wars,
Wilkes-Barre. He had been a past commander of these organizations. He
was a life member of the National Order of Trench Rats Dugout 322,
Philadelphia; the Golden Rodent of NOTR Dugout 309, Patterson, New
Jersey and a life member of the American Legion Post 350, Nanticoke.
Alfred is survived by his wife, the former Maria Santa Maria, at home;
son Al and his wife Evie Barthelemy, Loveland, Colorado; grand-daughters
Laurie and husband Chris Vermette, Longmont, Colorado; Evie and
husband Mike Overfelt, Loveland, Colorado; great-grandchildren Colin and
Kenya Barthelemy, Longmont, Colorado; stepson Joseph Santiglia and
wife Michele, Wilkes-Barre; step-daughter Jacquline Minuskin and her
husband Judge Arthur, Fairlawn, New Jersey and a cousin Ruth
Zimmerman, St. Petersburg, Florida.
Alfred’s funeral will be conducted on Friday at 9:30 a.m. from the Mark
V. Yanaitis Funeral Home, 55 Stark Street, Plains with a Funeral Mass at 10:
00 a.m. in St. Clement and St. Peter Episcopal Church, Wilkes-Barre, with
Father William Marshall, pastor, officiating. Interment with military honors
will be in Fairview Mausoleum, Fairview, New Jersey. Friends may call on
Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
