John R. Harowicz, (Hymie), 54, of the Hudson section of Plains, died
unexpectedly Sunday afternoon in Geisinger of Wyoming Valley Medical
Center, Plains, after being stricken ill at home.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of John A. and Bernadine A. Wojcik
Harowicz of Plains Township. John was a graduate of Coughlin High School,
Class of 1973; Luzerne County Community College, Class of 1976, and had
studied at Wilkes University. Over the years, John had worked for W. H.
Coon Restaurant Supply, Valley Supply Restaurant Equipment and was the
current sales manager for Scranton Restaurant Supply. John was a loving
husband, father, son, brother, and uncle. He was very dedicated to his
family; above all, his family was number one in his heart. As a young man,
John’s two passions were his future wife and his yellow Plymouth Road
Runner. As a young husband and father, John loved spending time with his
family and took them on yearly vacations that he deeply enjoyed. He drove
them to many different states such as Massachusetts, Ohio, Florida and the
family favorite vacation spot, Virginia. As a grandfather, John enjoyed
watching his grandson’s sporting events, watching science fiction movies
with his grandsons, and taking his family to amusement parks. He often took
his family to the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire, and enjoyed watching the
living chess games and the duels.
He was an avid Penguins fan, and he loved Penn State Football. John
loved working with wood, and he had single-handedly remodeled his family
home, taking great pleasure in every detail. He greatly enjoyed taking care of
his garden, and landscaping his yard. He was a member of Ss. Peter and
Paul Church, Plains. John was preceded in death by paternal grand-parents
Joseph and Josephine Harowicz; maternal grand-parents Edward and Anna
Wojcik and a brother-in-law David Brunetti.
Surviving in addition to John’s parents are his loving wife, the former
Sandra Jean Brunetti, with whom he had celebrated their 32nd wedding
anniversary May 27, 2010; daughters Stacy Marie Chronowski and her
husband Edward, Hilldale; Christina Marie Kluger and her husband Michael,
Hudson; Rebecca Jean Harowicz, at home; grandchildren Taylor David and
Logan Michael Chronowski, Hilldale; brothers Joseph and his wife Kimberly,
Laflin; Richard, Mountain Top; nieces and nephews Holly, Marissa,
Margaret, Joseph Harowicz Jr .; Felicia and Nina Brunetti; mother and father-
in-law Bruno and Marie Brunetti, Hudson and brother-in-law Dino and his
wife Cathy Brunetti, Mountain Top.
John’s funeral will be conducted on Friday at 9:00 a.m. from the Mark V.
Yanaitis Funeral Home, 55 Stark Street, Plains, with a Mass of Christian
Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Ss. Peter and Paul Church, Plains. Interment will be in
the parish cemetery, Plains. Friends may call on Thursday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.
